This Homemade Apple Cider is warm, cozy, and filled with all the comforting flavors of fall. You can make it right on your stovetop with just a few ingredients. It’s the perfect drink for entertaining, gifting, baking, or enjoying by the fire on a cool autumn day.
I have always loved walking in the kitchen to the smell of cinnamon, apple, and spices, and this recipe does just that. My Homemade Apple Cider uses pure apple juice, so you get all the flavor without added sugar or preservatives.
This recipe is so versatile, making it a staple in my kitchen every fall! You can serve it warm or chilled for a refreshing twist. Bake with it or marinate meats with it. This can also be used as a base for fall cocktails, like an Apple Cider Mimosa, which is a personal favorite. It’s simple, naturally sweet, and tastes even better after a few hours in the fridge when the flavors deepen.
INGREDIENTS
1 jar (32 ounces) 100% Organic Apple Juice (no sugar added, not from concentrate)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (if you’re a cinnamon lover like myself!)
EQUIPMENT
Medium Saucepan
Whisk
Fine Mesh Strainer (optional, for a smoother finish)
Airtight Jar or Pitcher for Storage
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Boil The Apple Juice : Pour apple juice into a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Add the Spices : Whisk in apple pie spice and cinnamon. Let the mixture boil for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Simmer to Infuse : Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 – 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Cool and Serve : Remove from heat and cool completely before transferring to a jar or pitcher.
Pro Tip : This cider tastes even better if made a few hours ahead and refrigerated before serving!
TIPS FOR THE BEST HOMEMADE CIDER
Use 100% Apple Juice, Not from Concentrate. It makes a noticeable difference in both flavor and sweetness.
Adjust the Spice Level. Start with 1 tablespoons of apple pie spice and increase to taste. I have personally found I prefer going all in with more spice!
Make It Ahead. The flavors deepen as it sits, making it even more delicious the next day.
For a Cozy Twist : Add a cinnamon stick or slice of orange when serving.
STORAGE TIPS
Store cooled cider in an airtight jar or pitcher in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Reheat gently on the stovetop before serving warm.
Can be served cold for cocktails or mocktails.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I Use Regular Apple Juice?
Yes! Just make sure it’s 100% apple juice with no added sugars or concentrates for the best flavor.
Can I use fresh apples instead of juice?
You can, but it will take longer. Simmer 8 – 10 chopped apples with water and spices for 45 – 60 minutes, then strain. The result is a bit different, but it is doable.
Can I make this in the slow cooker?
Absolutely – combine all ingredients and cook on low for 2 – 3 hours, uncovered.
How can I make it into a cocktail?
Mix with prosecco or sparkling wine to make an Apple Cider Mimosa. You can also add a splash of bourbon or spiced rum for a warm fall drink. Check out “other recipes you’ll love” below, as I will add new ideas when I create them!
